Microsoft Windows Server 2008

Description

Microsoft will release Windows 2008 Server as the direct successor to Windows 2003 Server in the spring of 2008. The new server OS, also known under the code name Longhorn, has much in common with Windows Vista and includes quite a few additions.

The management console server has been completely redone, so the configuration and administration of the new server has become much easier. New Internet Information Server 7 is also equipped with a new user interface. Virtualization technology is integrated directly into the operating system, so the use of virtual machines and similar technologies do not need to resort to, or providing third parties. Finally, administrators will have the system up to date at the time of release, because Windows 2008 Server includes all the components of deferred for Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista.

Our laboratory has decided to take a look at the first release candidate version of RC0 (at time of publication is already available version RC1). In general, the release candidates are very close to the final product and sent to testers, mainly to ensure that they "caught the bug. In the later release candidates are unlikely to add new features. So anything that we consider in this article, users will see the final version. Study RC0 will draw conclusions about the final release.

While Server 2008 is built on the same core as Vista, it does not mean that the administrator receives the colorful window on the interface Aero. It is quite clear that Microsoft has focused on server-side problems in the development environment, and therefore of paramount delivered ease of management, not design.

In any case, even if the external beautiful view is not the main purpose server operating system, Windows Server 2008 still allows you to set a new colorful design. Therefore, even exhausted the administrator can get a sense of Vista.
